Dogwhistling for homophobe, much like racialist and racial realist are for racist.
A clumsy attempt to detach one's behaviour from the well deserved public scorn it normally elicits by repackaging it in a neologism.

"I keep telling you, I'm not a homophobe, I'm a heteroseparatist!"
"And I keep telling you to please fuck off. I'm immunocompromised and cannot get the jab, you have been spreading spittle on me for the past five minutes and I've never seen you take the more sanitary basic precautions even before the pandemic."
