A slang term for "soft hardware," digital electronic circuits that are programmed into a reconfigurable logic device such as a field-programmable gate array (FPGA).
Nuby: Should we create a custom chip for this design?
Guru: Nah, too expensive.
Nuby: Well, then let's just run it in software.
Guru: That won't perform fast enough.
Nuby: Well, what then?
Guru: We do in gelware, of course!
