"Je m'en fiche" is a French expression that can be loosely translated to "I don't care" or "I don't give a damn." It is similar to the French expression "je m'en fous" (I don't give a fuck), but far less vulgar. It is still slang though and usually used in what one could potentially describe as "street French;" albeit a softer street French than the one that would use "je m'en fous" or "j'en ai rien à foutre."

The word derives from how a person of Italian or similar descent would pronounce the English word “face” if they were to read it in their native tongue. The term was originally used only in reference to the face; however, it has also evolved to describe a myriad of other nouns, most notably cigarettes and women’s breasts.

The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
