dauba

daʊ-bʌ
“Dauba,” alternatively spelt “duaba,” is a slang term for a dab pen used primarily within certain queer subcultures of the greater Chicagoland & Cincinnati areas. The term is interchangeably used for carts, batteries, and disposables.

Some have suggested that the word comes as a shortened form of the word “dauber,” a tool used for daubing — coating or smearing a thick or sticky substance in a careless way — perhaps referring to the consistency and texture of the cannabis concentrate within dab pens. However, the most widely accepted origin of the term comes from the suggestion that it was merely a funny-sounding code-name which allowed teenagers and young adults to talk about dab pens around parents or other authority figures.

The fact that this term is localized to communities within two cities in different states suggests that those who originally used the phrase had connections with queer circles around both Chicago and Cincinnati. It is unknown when “dauba” was first used or which of the two cities it originated from.
“Hey man, could you pass the dauba?”

“Shit, my duaba’s out and I don’t have enough money for another :((”

“Son, what’s this ‘duaba’ thing I keep hearing you and your friends talking about?”
“Oh, that’s what we’ve been jokingly calling McDonalds’ chicken nuggets.”

“You guys, I think my dad’s catching onto what dauba means.”
