A species of deer belonging to the west coast having a different antler pattern than the whitetail and more like mule deer. Blacktail deer are often hunting in harsh conditions and steep terrain. After a successful blacktail hunt with deer on their backs hunter will say something like "that hike would have killed a whitetail hunter" or "I wish I could have been one of those treestand hunters"
