Early 1980s college term for an uncosmopolitan yokel. Popular in the far reaches of the Northwestern US. The initials stand for Yellow Ski Vest, an item of clothing which at the time was terribly un-chic, and conjoured up the image of a farmtown cowboy ski-bum. This in an era when those in-the-know had their fashion radar aimed firmly at London, carefully camoflaging any hint at down-home roots. Now, of course who knows? Perhaps the Yellow Ski Vest would be viewed as 'hot'?
