Thigh Bangers

An increasingly microscopic category of men’s athletic shorts, typically featuring a 2-to-5-inch inseam, engineered to maximize thigh exposure while minimizing the amount of actual pants involved.

The preferred uniform of the modern thigh popper, particularly the college-aged gym bro who has collectively decided with his peers that seven-inch shorts are practically cargo pants and anything approaching the knee constitutes formal winter attire.

Thigh bangers are commonly purchased from premium athleisure retailers for $68 or more, despite containing approximately 40% less fabric than shorts that cost $20.

Defining characteristics:

* An inseam that seems to decrease every time the wearer sits down.
* A price tag inversely proportional to the amount of fabric provided.
* A built-in liner, allowing the outer shorts to migrate north without triggering an immediate wardrobe emergency.
* An alarming tendency to transform from ordinary shorts into what appear to be glorified Speedos after prolonged sitting.
* A near-universal pairing with an oversized T-shirt, crew socks, expensive sneakers, and a backward baseball cap.
* An apparent inability to remain at their original length once the wearer crosses his legs.

The Thigh Banger Paradox: The less material the manufacturer provides, the more the customer is willing to pay.
Bro 1: “Dude, are those new thigh bangers?”

Bro 2: “Yeah, bro. Three-inch inseam. Sixty-eight bucks.”

Bro 1: “Bro, there’s barely any pants left.”

Bro 2: “That’s the point.”

Bro 1: “What happens when you sit down?”

Bro 2: “They become two-inchers.”

Bro 1: “And when you cross your legs?”

Bro 2: “May your thighs pop.”
