Dave: "Yum! Kraft peanut butter and jam sandwiches on Wonderbread and a Coke and Twinkie" for lunch. I've been hungry since my usual double-double coffee and 3 Tim Horton's donuts from this morning. I can't wait to get home and have a Schneider's honey glazed ham and McCaines frozen cake."
Mario: "Dave. Oh. Don't be such a mangiacake. I got a mortadella, tomato and provolone on a pannino and escarole salad. Why don't you come over to my moms and try some of her pasta al forno with veal and dad's homemade sausage and wine."

mangiacake

Coined by Italian-Canadians during the height of Italian immigrated to Canada. Translation to English is "cake eater". There are a few opinions of the direct origin. When Italians first settled into predominantly WASP neighborhoods around Toronto, they were often welcomed by these people of Anglo-Saxon decent with cake (i.e. pound cake). The perception by Italian-Canadians at this point was that Canadians eat a lot of cake, hence the term mangiacake.
Maria: These Canadians, always eat cake.
Vince: Yah, they are what we a call "mangiacake"

Reasons for an Italian-Canadian to call someone a mangiacake:

If you use butter to cook, versus extra virgin olive oil, then you are a mangiacake.

If your pasta sauce is from a jar branded as Ragu, Prego, etc, then you are a mangiacake.

If you pronounce Bruschetta as "broo-sh-edda", you are a mangiacake.

mungie cake

A mungie cake is a derogotory term that Canadians of European descent use to describe:

1. Canadians of mixed ethnic heritage who lack a single, pure ethnic identity

2. The first-generation born children of European-born parents who have completely assimilated or blended into the general cultural landscape of Canada.

Those unaware or so far removed from their European cultural and ethnic heritage are also referred to as a mungie or a caker for short.

The term is derived from the Italian word "manga" which denotes a "plain white sponge cake".

That mungie cake wouldn't know good food if it hit him in the face.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
