Lottocracy

Share definition Flag
Government of the People by People chosen by Lottery.

A theory of government run by people recruited for office via a public lottery system. The lottery system would largely resemble the various systems in place today for choosing jury pools.

There would be no repeat public service required - previous service would be a valid exemption. Holding a position for two terms would be almost impossible. Some individuals would not qualify, just as they would not qualify for jury duty. Some would qualify for a temporary or hardship exemption. Eligibility would be based on age and residency. Citizenship may be required for some posts.

A Lottocracy makes wealth and fund-raising non-issues for a candidate for public office, as we would all be candidates with a more or less equal probability of being chosen.

Additional checks and balances may be required that do not exist in America's system of Democracy. For instance, no single position could hold ultimate power over any individual, group or organization. However, a Lottocracy would be almost free of special interest groups and so-called partisanship. It would also guarantee equal representation - a concept proposed by the founding fathers of the United States, but one sorely lacking in today's government.
Joe Plumber: You know, democracy kind of sucks. People that really want to run for office are probably the people that should never hold office.

Jane Plumbed: Yeah. ... Hey! Maybe you should run for President!

Joe Plumber: Nah! That job would suck. But maybe it would be better if we picked someone by lottery!

Jane Plumbed: Yeah. We could call it a Lottocracy.

lactocracy

Share definition Flag
The philosophy of a governing agency, or leaders of a group of underlings or trainees, whereby the governing agency/leaders deliberately coddle and infantalize the citizens and/or underlings/trainees, based on the assumption that people should never experience any stress, should never stretch themselves in the pursuit of excellence, and should never, essentially, be weaned from the breast. Ever. This is especially prominent among irritating helicopter-parent training directors in psychiatry today.
RLF: "Hey Barb, I am still fuming that the assistant training director sent an email to all the residents telling them to look at other fellowships, and not just ours! What the heck? Why did she do that?"

Barb D: "Well, Bob, you know our reputation for really pushing the residents to become the best they can be. That puts us at odds with the current lactocracy in control of the department. Duh."

liarocracy

Government of liars. Rule by the dishonest. What we basically have in the US today. All politicians are corrupt and full of shit. They will say anything to the public to get elected, and do the opposite once elected. If they tell the truth, it is only accidental. They serve only moneyed interests, but never mention this fact.
Obama promised to get us out of two wars, pass meaningful health care reform, take care of "main street," and "bring change to America." No dice. He is just another member of the liarocracy.

Lootocracy

Share definition Flag
A system of government in which the majority of politicians in power are in power with the main purpose of illegally appropriating to themselves, the commonwealth of the people they serve through inflated contracts, dubious projects, or outright stealing in a manner of plundering. These system of government is often in the guise of legitimate democracy but without the intents or benefits of democracy. This prevail in countries usually with all the paraphernalia of democracy in place but seldom has the implementation as intended and without consequences for bad behaviors to officials of government or their associstes.

Lootocrats, lootocratic
Governments in most thirdnworld countries need to deviate from lootocracy and implementing true democracy with the inherent consequences for bad behavior, especially of government officials, for the benefits of the people they serve.

Limitocracy

Share definition Flag
A system of government in which personal spending is capped at a certain amount per year (e.g. $2,500,000 annually), while corporate spending may exceed this limit.
A limitocracy is the antidote to a kleptocracy, because it limits greed and economic inequality.
A limitocracy is different from communism and socialism, because it doesn't cap personal income or wealth, nor does it limit corporate spending.

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.

Successful strivers:
- Barack Obama
- Harold Koh

2. Billy hate drafted Peyton Manning because he was the only good quarterback left and he knew Sam had been planning on drafting him.

Utility beer

Share definition Flag
Utility beer is the beer you keep around for the day-to-day moments when beer is a necessity to assist in pedestrian activities (golf, plumbing, yardwork, babysitting, staff meetings, Zoom calls). For the beer snob it is the beer you save for neighbors when they drop in at 3 p.m. on a Tuesday. It is differentiated from the actual high-end beer you save for special events, holidays, and special tastings.
Person 1: Dave, did you bring along those hazy craft IPA's so we could drink while cleaning Lyle's pool?
Person 2: Nope. I just have a bunch of utility beer that Steve dumped on me. Good enough for this. It is only 10:30 a.m.
