haibane

A haibane is a winged, angel like person who lives in the town of Guri. The word comes from the anime Haibane Renmei by yoshitoshi ABe sic. A haibane is born, fully grown, from a huge cocoon, with no memory of who they are or where they came from. They are then given a halo which floats above their head and, violently and painfully, grow small wings (about 3 or 4 foot wingspan). Eventually a Haibane has their "Day of Flight" which comes with no warning. Without telling anyone they go to a shrine in the Western Woods and disappear. All that is left is a bright light which travels up towards the sky and a darkened halo.

Rakka is a newborn haibane and is still learning about the town of Guri.

n. a person, usually Irish, who cannot be categorised, with a certain level of eccentricity and mishcheiviousness. Often identifiable by a willingness to try anything 'for the craic'. One can only know if one is a halian by searching inside oneself to find the 'inner halian', which is said to be different for each person.
