Facebook friend snare

When you receive a Facebook friend request from someone who you would rather not be friends with for whatever reason feel obligated to accept, you have been Facebook friend snared.

Crap! I have been Facebook friend snared! I don't like Lisa very much and she has sent me a friend request. I'd ignore it but we have so many friends in common that it would be awkward to ignore her request so I accepted it.

Facebook 'friends' 

Facebook friends are actually more like Facebook contacts. People will most of the time just add people they for example just saw walking in the hallway. The main reason for this is because it's almost like you go up in facebook popularity by having a lot of friends. In fact, a facebook user could have 600 friends and only 10 of them being real friends.

Person 1: "Wow I think he's one of the most popular kids in our school."

Person 2: "Why the hell would you think that?"

Person 1: "Because he has like 900 friends on facebook!"

Person 2: "Dude, that kid gets made fun of everyday, he has no real friends. Just Facebook 'friends'."

1. People who you add on social network websites likeFacebook for the sole purpose of using them to get benefits from their games such as Farmville, Cafe World, etc.

2. Someone you added on Facebook so that others will think more highly of you because of the association.

Minutes after that bombshell Rachel added me on Facebook I recieved a neighbour request for Farmville. We must be facebook friends with benefits.

Now that I've added the band members of Killswitch Engage on my facebook, noone will think I'm a loser anymore! =D

Facebook friendship

You know those people who'll never talk or even look at you in real life but on Facebook they like everything on your page, pester you with wall posts, always want to chat with you, poke you, etc. (generally act like you two are great friends)? Oh, and you barely know them or don't even know them at all and at some point randomly got a friend request from them. Yeah, you totally have a Facebook friendship with them!

Lisa: "Pshh... Yesterday Julia kept bugging me on Facebook all night until I finally had to get off the computer just to be rid of her. Today she won't even look my way. What's wrong with her?!"
Lilly: "Oh, she does that to everyone. She seems to love leading Facebook friendships with people but real friendship means nothing to her!"
Lisa: "I see. That's pointless, no wonder she has no real friends, just those "friends" she has on Facebook."
Lilly:" Yeah, I know, right? Facebook is not a replacement for real friends. It's just a sad attempt."
