Consumertism

Used for people who fall into severe consumerism through worshipping clothing, idols, car brands, music, social media, etc. Their entire existence is based on consuming instead of being a person.
Yeah, Mike has severe consumertism.

Fundamentalist Consumerism

a term coined by Bruce Levine to describe the mindset of a group of people who "are singularly attached to cheap stuff."

The term describes a culture that "creates increasing material expectations" that often can not be satiated, "devalues human connectedness," "socializes people to be self-absorbed and selfish," "obliterates self-reliance," "alienates people from normal human emotional reactions" and "sells false hope that creates more pain."
Fundamentalist Consumerism is demonstrated en-mass on every Black Friday. On Long Island, NY in 2008, Wal-Mart employee Jdimytai Damour was trampled to death by customers stampeding into the store when the doors were opened. Police attempting to clear the scene were met with hostile reactions from customers, some insisting that they "had been waiting in line since yesterday morning" to get into the store. Fundamentalist Consumerism devalues all life in pursuit of 'stuff.'

consumerism

1. The practice of conspicuously buying flashy, expensive items and expecting them to fill the voids in one's life.

2. A pejorative used to malign people who enjoy material luxuries, implying that it's impossible for a person do so without having an unhealthy fixation on them. Usually used as a sour grapes excuse to hate people who can afford more luxuries than one's self.
1. "Tiffany keeps spending all of her money on expensive designer clothing. When will she realize that it's personality, not consumerism, that wins friends?"

2. "Ugh, did you see Ted's new BMW with heated leather seats, a GPS navigation system, and a 6-disk CD changer? Anyone who would buy luxuries is obviously a disgusingly shallow and materialistic consumerist."

consumerism

A seriously over-rated form of modern day cult of commerce, whereby people buy goods. This has led to a rise in needless temptation as well as popular culture, which in turn results in mindless youths sinking into the morass of peer pressure and attention-seeking behaviour, all for the name of cold, hard cash.

Otherwise, a desirable practice.
Humans think consumerism is the key to a better life.

Consumerista

A caste in the New World Order in which Celebutantes (people famous for being famous) decide what is worthy of coolness, a commodity that is then traded for the cool product or service through the coin-of-the-realm (be it dollars, pounds sterling, euros, yen, etc.). The Consumerista is a vital but lower ranking member of society, as they are not famous and therefore do not matter except as nodes on the global fiscal economy. The Consumerista buys what the Celebutante thinks is worthy of buying, though the actual act of buying is important in a quasi-religious sense to the consumerista but not to the celebutante, who are too busy living as royalty has always lived: pampered and overindulged. Occasionally, to prevent a revolutionary act, a common "coming together" of the consumerista and their idols is staged to benefit starving children in nations that are "slave states" in all but name, receiving microfinancing loans to dig holes for water and once in a great while given solar powered computers "for educational purposes" by The Gate, which are usually sold for rice to eat.
"Courtney is such a good little consumerista. She read that the Kardashians use Heinz Ketchup just like the poor, and she's switched brands, blogged about the experience, and bought some stock in Heinz. She even donated a case to the South Africans--though they sent it back with a note saying they preferred Hunts."

consumerism

Consumerists are slaves with white collars. Advertisements have them chasing cars and clothes, working jobs they hate so they can buy shit they don't need. They are the middle children of history. No purpose or place. They have no great war, or great depression. Their great war should be a spiritual war. Their great depression is their lives. Raised by television to believe that one day they'll all be millionaires , movie gods and rock stars. But they won't.
