Bridgertoning

Making a series, movie or documentary about European history, in which historical facts and characters are either twisted or made up to suit a modern politically correct highly sensitive audience. Derived from the American series "Bridgerton". The series is a modern day fantasy about upper class British society in the early 1800's, in which major characters are portrayed by black people. Programs that are bridgertoned are full of historical inaccuracies and mistakes, which are frowned upon by historians, but easily overlooked by viewers who praise the edgy casting and bold storytelling. Essentially blackwashing and cultural appropriation at its finest.

The series sugarcoats and twists European history for the sake of political correctness. Surprisingly, there are no Arab, Asian, Latino, Pakistani or other non-white characters. See also Disneyfication.
"I hear the new Gladiator-movie will take place during the Crusades, and Denzel Washington will play a main character."

"Sounds good, which character?"
"Some European knight."
"... FFS, they're Bridgertoning the whole thing."

Bridgertoning

After the series "Bridgerton". To make a play, tv-programme or movie in a historical setting, that not only is filled with historical inaccuracies, but deliberately fucks up historical correctness for the sake of political correctness, so as to a
appeal to a large audience.

"Hey, I hear Denzel Washington will have a lead role in the upcoming "Gladiator II" movie."

"A European nobleman."

You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue?
