Appromatic

An adjective describing the optimized cognitive state of existing and socially behaving outside the standard "social matrix" or default human programming. It defines a mindset of acute self-awareness and interoceptive accuracy, where an individual observes the internal mechanics of their own mind and body instead of reactively executing societal expectations or default scripts.

The appromatic state typically manifests in human outliers—such as those navigating the world with unique physical attributes, individuals who have survived intense personal trauma, or natural eccentrics—whose lived realities create ongoing systemic friction with standard social norms, forcing them to "unplug" and interact with society on a completely unique, highly conscious wavelength.

Etymology (Language of Origin)

Prefix: From the Ancient Greek ἀπό- (apó-), meaning "away from," "separate," "outside of," or "detached."

Root: From the Ancient Greek automaticus or matos, meaning "mind," "will," or "acting automatically."

Suffix: The English suffix -ic, from the Greek -ικός (-ikos), meaning "pertaining to" or "having the nature of."

Historical Construction

Literally translated from its Greek building blocks, the word translates to "having the nature of a mind detached from automatic execution.

apromantic

A person will identify as apromantic if they have the ability to feel romantic attraction and/or love, but when the feelings are reciprocated by another person, the feelings diminish greatly, or even completely vanish.

The term uses the Greek prefix ap- or apo- meaning “away from” or “detached.

Other terms such as lithromantic and akoiromantic are also used, but there is less controversy surrounding this term.
"Hayley told me she loves me, and I feel really uncomfortable every time she says it to me now. I had a huge crush on her before I asked her to be my girlfriend, but now that she has shown romantic interest in me, I do not have feelings for her; I might be apromantic."
