A Japanese character, particularly in Katakana, that stands for the sound "Ji". It looks like a smiley face, almost exactly like シ, except that it contains two mini dashes on the upper right side of the character. It's not widely known for emoticon usage, but surely at least a couple of internet users use it as a emoticon given that it looks like a smiley face.

It originated because if you tap the buttons on your keyboard in order of 1st key of first row, 1st key of second row, 2nd key of 1st row, 2nd key of 2nd row, etc, with a japanese IME you'll get those letters.
