short hairs

The hairs at the nape of your neck. Often used in the phrase "to be got/caught/held by the short hairs", which means that someone has you trapped in something, and you are unable to easily escape. Although often confused with the phrase "short and curlies" (which refers to pubic hair), the phrase "to be caught by the short hairs" is common from as far back as 1890 when it was used by the author Rudyard Kipling, whereas the phrase "to be held by the short and curlies" didn't come about until WWII when it was used primarily as military slang.

Although I'd rather come to your party, I promised my co-worker I would watch GoT with him. He took a photo of me sleeping at my desk last week, so he's really got me by the short hairs; I can't cancel on him, or he could get me fired.

Short Man's Syndrome

A term applied to a short man whenever he is assertive or commanding. If the exact same attitude was taken by a taller man, no one would think twice.

Tall guy steps out of a new Camaro: "Hey, check out that guy with the Camaro!, that's a sweet ride, I wonder how much he makes."

Short guy steps out of a new Camaro: "Dude, look at that little man with the Camaro, Talk about compensation!"

Tall employer assigns difficult task: "My boss gives me hard jobs, but whatever, everyone has to work."

Short employer assigns difficult task: "Damn, that prick loves to lord his authority over me! He has major Short Man's Syndrome!"

Shorthand

Two definitions.

1. Used by literate writers in the real world for note taking, mostly at school or college. Usually just abbreviated forms of words, they also can use symbols or different pieces of text that symbolize longer parts of text. Usually shorthand is easier to be read by the writer, for all shorthand is unique to its user. Some abbreviate different things.

2. Used by illiterate noobs online. they speak with no grammar, and make no sense. They cannot seem to spell, and seem to randomly press keys.

1. Need to go to the stor to by food. An i need sum fud.
