A Toby is someone who everybody hates for no apparent reason, despite the fact that they are a generally ok person. Nobody likes a Toby, as Tobys are boring and incredibly mild mannered. The phrase originates from the character Toby Flenderson who is portrayed by Paul Lieberstein on the US version of NBC's The Office. The most iconic instance of Toby being a Toby is during the infamous 'Oh god please no' scene.
