butthurt-prosecution

The practice of prosecuting individuals out of embarrassment, well in excess of any demonstrable harm. The practice is particularly ubiquitous in Western democracies where sedition is an unpopular prosecutorial tack in order to dispense retributive punitive enforcement in response to indefensible egg-on-the-face.

Two cases are particularly illustrative:

The US government's piling on of charges against Barrett Brown constitutes a very clear, inflamed case of butthurt-prosecution.

Although he pleaded guilty to offenses carrying ~20 years in prison, Bradley Manning must still stand trial for his life, as the DoD and DoS have a wicked bout of butthurt-prosecution.

Use protection!

A phrase friends shout at (A.) someone and their significant other or (B.) two people who belong together, usually really loudly and in an exceptionally embarrassing manner, reminding them to use condoms when they have sex (which is inevitable, or at least in the eyes of the person shouting it).

A.) When my boyfriend and I left together our friends shouted, "Use protection!" loud enough for anyone in a five mile radius to hear.

B.) When me and my best friend of the opposite sex left the party half the room screeched, "Use protection!"

Protection Racket

A business combination of extortion schemes controlled by a criminal syndicate. For the "promise" of security, significant sums of money are seized from persons, businesses, communities, or even nations. While the racketeer may in fact provide real protection, it is at a cost the victim would never voluntarily assume under normal circumstances. Often the promise of security is accompanied by a veiled threat.

"This is President Obama calling. Don't think of this as some kind of Protection Racket...think about it as life insurance. Your country has numerous external security threats. You are also very dependent on trade for continued economic growth. It would be terrible to experience a security failure in that part of the world. We stand ready to protect you against that kind of threat. But in order to do that we need about a billion dollars this week. Recognize we are partners in this now. It takes a village. We know we can count on your support.
