pick holes
(v.) To find every possible reason, no matter how immaterial, to oppose an action presented to you. This is regardless of whether or not it involves your participation, requires your approval, or is not your business.

Videogame warfare
(v.) Videogame warfare is warfare from which the mainstay of the action involves very little physical combat. it is more a matter of planes drop bombs, guided missiles drop in, troops over-run the remaining enemy, grantign them quarter. It stresses a heavy reliance on technology and enemy intelligence.

(n.) After the first world war, the countries on both sides decided to band toghether to stop such a thing happening again with the "League fo Nations". However, the L.O.N. had no armed forces and when Adolf Hitler withdrew from in in the thirties, the weakness of this "Talking shop" showed through. Disbanded at the end of world war two, it gave way to the "United Nations", where member countries' influence on world events was measured by thier contribution. The contribution is generally based on the GDP of each member country, although the united states and to a lesser extent the united kingdom pay disproportionately more than other members for the upkeep, and also provide more troops.
To prevent world crises' in the future, the UN democratically votes to decide whether it should allow a country to sort out its' own problems or if they should choose to help a side. Being by far the largest group on contributors, the G8 nations choose to help the most western-friendly side in each struggle.
However, certain amounts of ignorance to eachothers' ideas and division of peoples based on economic wants has lead to the UN having trouble maintaining itself as of late. That, combined with the actions taken without consent of the United nations council by the US and her allies has lead to speculation that the UN is heading the way Hitler thrust its predecessor, the League of Nations, and that it has been becoming another talking shop since the fall of the USSR and the end of the communist threat.

Star wars defense
The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) is a system proposed by President Ronald Reagan on March 23, 1983 to use space-based systems to protect the United States from attack by strategic nuclear missiles. It was dubbed "Star Wars" by opponents, implying it is an impractical science fiction fantasy, but supporters have adopted the usage as well on the grounds that yesterday's science fiction is often tomorrow's engineering. While Gorbachev's reforms deserve a vast majority of the blame, or credit, for the collapse of the Soviet Union, SDI may have contributed to the fall by successfully applying the strategy of technology, which was a prevalent doctrine at the time.
Project and proposals
The proposal was sharply criticized for its potential costs, doubts that it would be technologically feasible and afford complete protection against all delivery systems, concerns that it would violate the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty and the Outer Space Treaty and destabilize the nuclear balance of power.
The research was controlled by the Strategic Defense Initiative Office, an agency of the Department of Defense until 1993, when it was renamed the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization. Department of Defense cost estimates for SDI-related spending during fiscal years 1984-1994 amounted to US$32.6 billion. An independent report by the Congressional Research Service arrived at a much higher figure of US$70.7 billion 1.
The project was repeatedly scaled back, renamed Global Protection Against Limited Strikes (GPALS, dubbed "Son of Star Wars") in 1991, and refocused on protection from smaller attacks. GPALS was based on a ground system of rocket-launched interceptors aimed at preventing small scale launches by "rogue states" (apparently North Korea, Libya, Iraq or Iran) from impacting on the US.

President Bill Clinton almost halted the program, but it has regained momentum under President George W. Bush, whose version is called the National Missile Defense (NMD).
