The Shadow Realm

The shadow realm is the unfortunate demise of the everyday sim racer.

Anyone can be sent to the shadow realm, this is often the result of coming up against a dirty driver that likes to ram other drivers, cut corners, and/or seek unwarranted revenge through uncontained frustration.

Likewise, anyone can send another to the shadow realm, sometimes sending someone to the shadow realm is approved without wider scrutiny, even encouraged, such as wiping out a dirty driver.

What's the most embarrassing however, is sending yourself to the shadow realm. This is often achieved by unsuccessfully navigating tight chicanes such as "The Chicane Of Death" in Gran Turismo 6, or a simple lack of concentration through a difficult part of the track.

Barry R is a close relative of the shadow realm.

You know what? I've had enough of this dirty driver, time to send him into the shadow realm. *PIT manoeuvres him into the wall*

Unfortunately, that German slammed right into me into Turn 1, and unfortunately, I have yet again met my old friend, the shadow realm.

Being Sent to The Shadow Realm

A term typically used while playing fighting/platformer games. This entails being hit off-stage and losing a stock. Unlike "Being Sent to Brazil", this occurrence involves the fighter being sent down at a 90° angle to the floor. The most common occurrence of this is in the Super Smash Bros. franchise, in which one fighter can strike the other using a certain move that spikes the opponent straight down (this is referred to as a "meteor smash" by the creators of the game).

"There's nothing more embarrassing than being sent to The Shadow Realm after talking smack to your opponent, trust me it's a nasty experience."

Toe Rag

A toe rag was originally a foot wrapping used, since mediaeval times up until the mid-nineteenth century, to protect the foot from chafing by boots or shoes. As these were, quite literally, rags they weren’t usually washed, and so with use they became very smelly until they were thrown away. Because of the similarity in smell, toe rag also became the name applied to dried, salted cod or other things with a strong, unpleasant, fishy smell. It didn’t take that long before the name was applied to someone who was an obnoxious, unpleasant OIC.

Eternity leave

When some resigns or retires from a job, they are on "eternity leave". This can also refer to someone who has passed away, especially someone who worked somewhere for a long time, retired/resigned, then passed away later.

Oh I'm sorry, you didn't know that Kelly is on eternity leave? She resigned and moved to Hawaii!
