Completely insane. Related to the term "nuts" (meaning the same thing) in the same way that "apeshit" is related to "bananas" and "batshit" is related to "batty." It is unknown whether the offensive terms were dysphemisms of the innocuous terms or the innocuous terms euphemisms of the offensive terms. Excepting "apeshit," all of these terms (including "bananas") have the same meaning, that is, "crazy."

A syndrome resulting from a untreated squirrel bite. Symptoms include; the heightened urge to think & talk about squirrels, the increased desire to fetch nuts, and an intense feeling of a need to climb trees.

He must have squirrelitis, all he ever does is talk about squirrels.

A Squirrelitarian could very well be considered a vegetarian or even a vegan. But true Squirrelitarians engorge themselves on squirrel type foods, like nuts and berries and leafy greens. As well, we Squirrelitarians drink large amounts if water and like our hair rubbed.
