root hog

A term used by mentally unstable football coaches to describe how an offensive lineman should block a linebacker when it is unclear whether to log him in or kick him out.

Player: Coach, should i block that linebacker in or out?

Coach: You're gonna have to root hog him.

When an individual or a group of people with share interests, over take the front row/prime location by any means necessary ie.. elbow to the face or groin.

My friends and I are root hogging our way to the front of the crowd.
