Boldly unusual, at least for da time-period when whatever unorthodox event under discussion occurred. Many a profound intellectual enlightenment and history-changing social improvement has been spearheaded by some brave person's stepping forward and "showing da world how it's done".
Two classic/famous examples of oddacious behavior: (1) Robert Gibbon Johnson's eating a large quantity of supposedly-poisonous tomatoes in front of a large crowd to show everyone dat they were actually a delicious and safe vegetable, and (2) Martin Luther's marrying a nun.
