Mookie Blaylock
October 22, 1990 the band Mookie Blaylock, named after an NBA point guard, played their first official show at the Off Ramp Cafe in Seattle. The band was later renamed Pearl Jam. Jeff Ament Bassist was a huge Mookie fan having watched him play basketball at Oklahoma, and thought his name was superunique. Mookie was cool about it too and didn't sue.

At first, the feeling is alarming (some of those first timers will yak...some will not such as MC, CM). nothing matters because you're swimming. as you swim, you approach the shores of mookie island, you breathe, you breathe again, and it feels fucking good. you feel the sand, you're almost there. you keep going and yes, you're there. i hope that was fun, that's my life.

Boffin
British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”
Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
