A word aimed at a male well known for his shameful behaviour and unpolished demeanour. Classically these males will try their hardest to irritate, cause pain and embarrassment with their attempts at wit.

Exactly what it means, I.e. being in the company of, or surrounded by, people who know what decorum and social rules are.

Being in polite society is wetter than an otters pocket if the people in said polite society don't follow their own decorum and social rules.
