A typical greeting gesture employed by a
homosexual man or soyboy upon encountering a
man. The greeting itself is comprised of a
loose hug with gregarious hand flapping, or patting, upon embrace. The hands are not required to make actual contact with the back or shoulders of the recipient, with protocol usually dictated by the masculinity of the receiving person. The recipient may or may not reciprocate, and it is hard to make a determination of his homosexuality or soyboy characteristics absent other indicators. Note that a
butterfly hug is not exclusive to homosexuals or soyboys, but it is a strong indication that, at a minimum, the initiator of this form of greeting is within one or both of those categories. All heterosexual
men with at least marginal testosterone levels agree that a butterfly hug is an extremely poor substitute for a proper firm handshake with physical contact lasting less that 5 seconds.
