People used to create a "paper trail" to record historical information. With email messages, they now create an "e-trail".

In order to prove that Joe wasn't responding to his requests, Bob began to create an e-trail of all the times he had asked Joe to do something that hadn't gotten done.

e-tail therapy

when you are feeling ill and house bound but still want a bit of retail therapy, log on and partake in some "e-tail therapy".
same as retail therapy but done online due to being too ill to go out and shop.

Electronic paper trail.

I do as much of my work communications as possible using email or Teams to create an etrail of the conversations.
