"Anti-" means against or opposed to, and "Bellum" means war, or conflict. Therefore "Antibellum" means to be against war.

The antibellum movement escalated as the war continued.

Orginates from the latin words alius (meaning other, English use - alien) and bellum (meaning war, English use - belligerence).
