1: a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is uttered in sincerity, but critical analysis reveals the opposite is true. When encountered, readers or listeners who possess the strange ability to think for themselves often experience symptoms ranging from mild disbelief to severe cognitive discomfort.

2: A portmanteau derived from the Latin words “Adversus” for opposite, and “Affor” to speak.
