This is the person with whom you reunited, for whatever reason, after previously ending a relationship. He/She was your ex-boy/girlfriend and now is your y-boy/girlfriend. The term was created to facilitate communication. The homonym was appropriate for the reasons everyone asks.
“My y-boyfriend and I are going to his cousin’s wedding.” The listener can understand how that experience may be different than if you were a new, current, or just a friendlydate. In general, the listener understands that you have had a relationship with this person, parted with them, grown, and reunited after working out your problems….or not, so some say, “Why?”
Fogey/fogy /fougi/ sl. (early 18C+, orig. Scot) old-fashioned, stuck-in-the mud.
Person with old fashioned ideas which he is unwilling to change: Come to the disco and stop being such an old fogey!
You think me an old fogeyand an old tory, his thoughtful voice said. I saw three generations since O’Connel’s time. I remember the famine. Do you know that the orange lodges agitated for repeal of the union twenty years before O’Connel did or before the prelates of your communion denounced him as a demagogue? You fenians forget some things. (James Joyce, Ulysses. Penguin Books,1992. p. 38)
