Vestilence

A word derived from the Latin vestigium (meaning “footprint” or “trace”) and the English word silence.

Vestilence describes the feeling of sad nostalgia that hits when you cross paths with someone who was once an integral part of your life — and you’re struck by the realization that not only are you now strangers, but you can continue living the rest of your life without them.
I was minding my business until Kurt approached me. I hadn’t heard from him in a while — and suddenly, I was hit with a wave of vestilence.
