The common, nonscientific name of a plant or animal.

An example of "southern" vernacular:

"I'm fixing to do that." Meaning, "I am going to do that, without a doubt. But not yet."

"We lurked out in the streets for a few hours but then she told me to come over so I came through cause it's really nothing."

vernocular 

The visual appearance - facial features, body type and mode of dressing - of ordinary people in a particular country or region.

She exemplified the Parisian vernocular. Without an extra pound, without jewelry or makeup, without piercings or tattoos - Mon Dieu! - her hair brushed up and away from her face, held in an easy ponytail, she was dressed with exquisitely simple taste, everything of the most subtle colors and quality, and her appearance radiated graceful self-possession. She could not have come from anywhere else.
