Originates from way back in the BBS years, when giving something back for ratio on said said server.

An abbreviation for "Unlimited."

"UL" is most commonly found on Reddit. UL subs are made in response to popular subs that have incredibly stupid auto-moderators that automatically remove 99% of posts with zero explanation (or a bullshit explanation).

r/showerthoughtsUL and r/AskRedditUL are the more famous ones. r/TrueUnpopularOpinion does not have UL in its name, but still falls into this.
