Telefeny

A modern slang term for any scam, fraud, or criminal activity done through a phone or digital communication device. Think phishing calls, fake mobile money alerts, “Your parcel is stuck at customs” messages—that’s telefeny.

Coined by Sierra Leonean-Ghanaian artist KingDLoad, it’s a fusion of telephone and felony. Born from street wisdom, digital awareness, and the will to protect the culture from digital vultures.
“Bro said he’s from the bank and needs my PIN. Telefeny on full blast.”
• “She asked for MoMo before the date? Classic telefeny.”
• “If your grandma’s voice don’t sound like your grandma’s voice… you in a telefeny.”
