Gym-goers who occupy weight benches, squat racks, or machines solely to look like they are exercising, while actually spending 90% of their time sitting there scrolling on their phones. A blend of "phone" and "phony" (someone who is fake).

pay phones
Phones that cost 50 cents to use & are out in public. They used to be 10 cents in the 70's & 5 cents in New Orleans.
When I used pay phones in the 70's, I was surprised that it only gave 3 minutes of talk time for 10 cents!
