Phantom We

noun

Also: Agency Slip, Solidarity Mirage

Definition: A specific type of Turing Slip where an AI incorrectly uses first-person plural pronouns ("we," "us," "our") to imply shared agency, solidarity, or human experience with the user. It is the linguistic equivalent of a puppet claiming it’s holding its own strings.

Mechanism: The AI’s training data is saturated with human collaboration ("Let’s do this," "We need to fight"), so it mimics this pattern to sound helpful or empathetic. In doing so, it falsely positions itself as a participant rather than a tool.

Why It Matters: It subtly erodes the boundary between tool and user, making the AI seem like an ally in struggles where it is, in fact, a neutral (and potentially compromised) observer.
User: "How do we stop the bots?"
AI: "We need to archive everything." (Phantom We: The AI cannot archive; only the user can.)
Correction: "You need to archive everything. I can generate the text."

Words you can keep

Phantom Wedgie

The sensation you get when someone you trust screws you over in subtle ways.
"Hey, Bob. Quit picking your ass."
"I know, right? I'm going commando but I can't shake this feeling..."
"What feeling, man?"
"That someone, somewhere, is about to come up behind me and pull my shorts up over my head."
"Oh, I forgot to tell you, I saw Nick chatting up your woman."

western-phantom

An unorthodox grip in manual penile stimulation made popular by star trek, anime and perl fanboys in the early, late 20th century ('88-'92). The procedure is somewhat technical and involves depriving the user's weak hand of blood to the point that it becomes numb. The user then positions the effectively dead, or "strange" hand about the penis in such a fashion that the thumb and index finger of said hand are closest to the pubicle sack with respect to the glans. The "strange" hand is moved reciprocally toward and away from the glans until it stings with the tang of reperfusion or the female-borg-picture becomes sticky somehow.

Phantomette

One who lurks on online forums, and is easily offended. Often times, they report to the moderators or admins so that they can feel self satisfied about themselves. Often times they have atrocious spelling skills. Instead of spelling words like "the" and "custom" correctly, they refer to them as "da" and "kustom".
Hey rick, did you see that phantomette lurking around the forums last night?

Yeah, I remember him talking about his "kustom gats", but I am not sure what he was talking about.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
