NCSA stands for "National Center for Supercomputing Applications." It is one of the original five supercomputer centers of National Science Foundation (NSF).Established in 1986, it operates as a unit of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It is home to the petascale supercomputer "Blue Waters."

It has a high school of 400 students and a college of 700 students majoring in one of five internal schools. The School of Drama, Dance, Design and Production, Filmmaking, and Music.
