Monkey's Blood 

Northern English name for Strawberry Sauce.

Originating from the comparable colour of blood and strawberry sauce. There is no real explanation as to why is it specifically the blood of a monkey.

Monkey’s Blood 

Monkey’s Blood is Northern slang for Strawberry Sauce. This originated from Hartlepool due to hanging a monkey found on a shipwreck during the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century, believing him to be a French spy and giving people from Hartlepool the nickname of “Monkey Hangers”! Monkey’s Blood references the red colour of Strawberry Sauce to the blood of the monkey.
