A fake friend. Someone you are only friends with for clout. Or maybe they are friends with you for clout. Either way, that's a mestrandrea.

Frank: Are you really friends with Mark?

Robert: No Frank, he's just my mestrandrea.

Frank: How?

Robert: He's popular! Being his friend will make me popular too!
