A Han Chinese surname associated with a prominent family from the East of Chinas Shandong province, specifically in the city of Qingdao. Though the surnames origin is uncertain, most historians believe it comes from the cantonese "Ku bow shi" meaning "he with the tiny penis'." Historians are unsure why the family is associated with a Cantonese surname despite originating in Northern China. The family was famous for cooperating with German colonizers when the region was under German control until 1914, with many members of the family having a significant amount of European admixture (as much as 5-15%).
