hipster-hop

Share definition Flag
An emerging subculture built around DJ's who have a blog with wild party pictures, do mash-ups that usually involve dirty south and/or Diplomats-related rap, wear designer jeans with retro Nikes, and inhabit a grey area between being a hipster and having "street credibility."
The DJ was on your standard hipster-hop tip... he played some Yin Yang Twinz/Take Me Home Tonight mash-up.

I can't even wear Nike Dunks anymore because I see 20 hipster-hop kids a day wearing them.

Hipster-Hop

Any hip-hop group that is popular with 20-something suburban white kids.(Odd Future, Aesop Rock).
Experimental beats and atypical lyrics don't necessarily make hipster-hop groups better than the mainstream.

Hip Hop Hipster

A person who only accepts listening to underground hip hop and shuns mainstream hip hop.
Guy: Dude have you heard the new Jay-Z album!?!?
Hip Hop Hipster: No, Jay-Z is a sellout and so are all the other commercial rappers.

hipster-hopper

Share definition Flag
The most recent incarnation of hipsters (in the UK at least).
Almost always seen in some sort of headwear: most commonly a flat-peaked cap but sometimes some sort of beanie instead. Other typical clothing includes graphic tees, chunky trainers (usually skate shoes or basketball shoes, preferably Nike), parkas, plaid shirts, hoodies and slim-fitting chinos or jeans. Big headphones are a popular accessory.
Their favourite activities include smoking weed, clubbing and going to rap shows. A notable minority also try their hand at skateboarding, especially after the rise in popularity of OFWGKTA.
They listen to "underground" hip-hop (favourites include Immortal Technique, Aesop Rock, Sage Francis, Saul Williams, Curren$y, MF DOOM). They also listen to electronic music ranging from dubstep, house and IDM to witch house and the abstract "beat music" of the Brainfeeder Collective. They'll tend to feign an appreciation of old skool rap, but rarely actually listen to anything made before the year 2000.
They invariably revere the late great J Dilla as a god.
They'll rarely if ever identify with the term "hipster", probably considering it an insult, but may refer to themselves as "hip hop heads" or "beat heads".
Hipster-hopper 1: "Dude let's drop a load of mandy and go to a rave!"
Hipster-hopper 2: "Nah bro, let's just roll another spliff, put on some beats and chill out here."

hipster-hopper

Share definition Flag
A hipster who primarily listens to underground/experimental hip-hop (usually along with IDM, trip-hop and dubstep; often along with some mainstream hip-hop as well).
Often wears retro Nike trainers, gold chains (often comically oversized under the pretense of irony), wide-framed glasses (even if they don't need them to see) and skinny jeans. Also known to sport unusual haircuts, including afros, mohawks and buzz cuts.
Usually, Caucasian or East Asian, but often also black or mixed race. Regardless of race, always overuses supposedly "street" slang such as "dope", "ill", "sick" and "wack".
Hipster-hoppers typically listen to such artists as J Dilla, MF DOOM, Aesop Rock, Flying Lotus and those associated with anticon.

hipster hopper

A hipster of the hip-hop persuasion. While following the hipster doctrines of apathy, a non-corporate lifestyle, and non-conformity, the hipster hopper often listens to rap, wears baggier clothes, and gold chains, most likely for purposes of irony.
1: "does that guy think he's flava flav?"
2: "no, he's just a hipster hopper"

12 step recovery jargon referring to someone new who talks about how great life is, now that they're sober. Usually meaning that the person is out of touch with reality.
The new guy seems pretty happy for a dude who has no job, no money and no family. He must be on a pink cloud.

Striver

Share definition Flag
The striver is an interesting phenomenon that is seen across college campuses. In essence, the striver is an over-achiever who comes from a working or middle class family. He may be an immigrant. He may have been a slacker in HS who was "born again" into an academic wunderkind. Or he may just be an over-achiever who is keeping at it.

The striver is willing to sacrifice his social life at the expense of Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude. The striver is the guy who stays at the library long after you are gone. The striver is the guy who takes 30 credits/semester and considers anything below an A/4.0 failure. The striver doesn't work on campus, he is too busy finding ways to pad his resume instead of working retail or workstudy. The striver lets his grades pay his education by applying to ten scholarships a year.

The striver is a future Soros/Fullbright/Rhodes/Gates/Marshall/etc. fellow. The striver lives to study. For the striver, their fun comes from the rewards they expect to receive in return for their diligence. Be it Law School, B-School, academia, or politics. The striver seeks to find the American Dream through academic success.
Anthony was a striver. He transfered from a TTT to an IVY and graduated in 2 years. He studied his ass off and went to Penn Law. He got a Biglaw offer. But lost it all because of an unmoderated mesasgeboard.

- Harold Koh
