In reference to the M. Knight Shyamalan film, The Happening. The word, "happening" is used sarcastically in context. If something is "happening" it sucks, is boring, is stupid or is a flat out waste of your time.

A hippie word originating in 1960’s American counterculture which essentially just means a mass gathering of ‘heads with music or some theme of cultural importance or some sort, such as, but not limited to, a peaceful protest or demonstration. 'Happenings' blurred the rigid lines between music concerts/festivals and the rest of the world, helping incorporate psychedelic rock/jazz and funk elements into everyday life. Previously, music had mostly been listened to on records or enjoyed by a select few in a stadium or amphitheatre. This is actually happening
A phrase for use to highlight an ensuing awkward or unbelievable event. Mentioning that it is 'actually happening' helps to address either the awkwardness or awesomeness in the situation to everyone present. Therefore, can be used as a positive reinforcement to encourage the behaviour or as a negative reinforcement to discourage the offender.
Use in positive situation: Three hot women approach man and his friends in a bar and ask if they can join them.
