Fortean

1. A subject of the unexplained, unknown, paranormal, cryptozoology, ufology, or other related field. A subject that is considered Fortean is one that cannot be explained through known means.

2. One who studies and investigates the unexplained.

3. Of or relating to Charles Fort. The term is derived from the name Charles H. Fort, author of The Book of the Damned, New Lands, Lo!, and Wild Talents, who is widely regarded as the father of paranormal investigation.

As a Fortean I frequently investigate cases of hauntings, UFO sightings, and strange creates.

relating to an interest in oddball psuedo-science, cryptozoology, alien big cats, ufology, and the like more from an inquisitive standpoint than a sensationalistic one. a fortean is just as happy to provide/glean information that would debunk a phenomenon as they would be to prove or further a study.

bob watches "ghost hunters", but he's not convinced that ghosts are intelligent entities, but more likely a recording on space, or a side-effect of electro-magnetic interference, because he's a fortean.

irvine-fortescue

Relating to a medieval Scottish clan, irvine-fortescue is a term often used in Scottish rap battles. It refers to a 'Scot' who spends the majority of his time either in the gym or on the 'lash'. The love of 'lash' is so extreme that most bar tenders are told to remove anything non-alcoholic from any drink ordered. Although some may perceive this irvine-fortescuism cool, often those of a feminine persuasion are less than impressed. These negative connotations are balanced by the other meaning of irvine-fortescue which refers to a man of extreme sincerity. It may also refer to a propensity to make up dreams to impress friends.

'Mate, did you hear about Fred's dream? He's well cool'
'Na. He made it up to impress you'
'Oh, he's such an irvine-fortescue'

'Hey mate how you doing?'
'I'd appreciate it if you'd move along please - this is serious'
