Also can describe a couple doing all of the following said actions while in a large group of friends, completely disengaged and unaware of the social gathering occurring around them.

It's a trend about getting "back to basics" and enjoying the simpler things in life, rather than getting stressed out and worrying over nothing. You can stay home and cupcake with your boyfriend by watching an old favorite movie or cupcake with your friends and look at the sky or color in a kids' coloring book. Related to vegging, but cuter.
