crappypasta

n. A term used by the creepypasta community to refer to a creepypasta story which is of excessively poor quality, often utilizing tropes from more popular and successful creepypastas or even non-creepypasta horror in an attempt to imitate their success.

It's up to the reader to decide if a story is an actual crappypasta or simply a sub-par creepypasta, however they can usually be identified fairly quickly based on the subject material. If the story in question involves so-called "lost episodes" or haunted games it is most likely a crappypasta. In addition, if it is about a franchise which has had one or more popular stories such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon, Spongebob Squarepants, or My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; as well as if it contains overused characters from creepypasta, i.e., Slenderman, Jeff the Killer, or The Rake.
I checked out this story he said was scary, but it was a real crappypasta.

Crappypasta

A term coined mainly by 4chan, reddit, & creepypasta wiki users to refer to poorly written, overly clichéd creepypastas most likely written with the intent to be disturbing or horrifying to the reader. Most of these crappypastas have been banned from the creepypasta wiki, and can most likely be found on the "bad creepypasta" category within the trollpasta wiki. Note that crappypastas are not meant to be confused with trollpastas, as trollpastas are intentionally written to be sarcastic as well as comedic. Most crappypastas often stem around the genres of lost episodes, gaming creepypastas, mascot horror, image creepypastas, and even fanfics with fetishized violence.

Some examples of crappypastas are:
Sonic.exe
Jeff the Killer
Red Mist
Guest 666
Slenderman

To the determine whether or not a creepypasta should be deemed a crappypasta or not is up for debate, as many stories that have been regarded as genuine creepypastas, only for them to be labelled as a crappypasta after a few years because the people who used to find these stories scary, now have matured enough to realize how bad they were. Some crappypastas are later turned into mascot horror icons due to their sheer popularity upon younger audiences.

There can be hybrids of crappypastas and trollpastas. These types of crappypastas are purposely written poorly and sarcastically in order to be funny, yet fail at offering any comedic value to the reader. One example of a crappy trollpasta is "TEH DAY OF ALL TEH BLOD".
Person 1: By far the scariest creepypasta I've read was the story of Herobrine!
Person 2: People still find those crappypastas scary? It's freaking 2023! Grow up!

Creepypasta

Essentially internet horror stories or a myth passed around other sites, to frighten readers and viewers. The word, "Creepypasta" comes from the term, " copypasta ". An internet slang term for a block of text that gets copied and pasted from website to website. Creepypastas are sometimes are supplemented with pictures, audio or video footage related to the story. Typically with gory, distorted or, otherwise, shocking content.
Suicidemouse.avi was the grandfather of all lost episodes. It showed Mickey Mouse walking down a endless street with random piano keys playing in the background. The video gets more distorted and music turns static. See for yourself.

Also, Sonic.exe is a very well known Creepypasta. There is even a clone of the game to download. Although it's it well done, the clone will never have the same fear factor as the story did.

Lastly, Slender Man was introduced in 2009 in the Something Awful forums. Slender Man was not well know untill 2012 when Mark Hadley released, "Slender:The Eight Pages".

More from Urban Dictionary
West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
Some grebo passed with Sabbath playing on his stereo.
The Poppies are at no. 17? God, a grebo band in the charts!
They're playing nu-metal now, bloody grebos!
