brother in law

Your wife's loser brother. Has tons of good ideas but needs to "borrow" a thousand dollars to get started.

He's an expert at everything futile, worthless and unprofitable.

He talks constantly.
Oh honey, I had to write Trent a check today, he is starting a business cleaning bicycles for the Salvation Army, he's going to make it big this time! We have to dear, you worked overtime for a month and he's your brother in law. Don't you love me?

British slang for a scientist or technical expert, esp . when the speaker is not certain of the expert’s specific field of study. Not necessarily derogatory, but typically used by persons without a technical background. In the US, the equivalent would be “egghead”, “squint”, or “geek.”

Origin of the word is unknown. Started sometime in World War 2. Given the typical evolution of British slang, could easily have started because what these experts did was confusing or “baffling” to the common person.
