Also Assad-Maduro Bias, a form of bias where observers focus exclusively on a single action, goal, or intention—ignoring the actual consequences, outcomes, and means used to achieve them. Named after the international reactions to the falls of Assad and Maduro, where critics fixated on the abstract goal of "removing dictators" while dismissing the catastrophic humanitarian consequences, the rise of even worse actors, and the methods used (sanctions starving populations, support for extremist factions, destruction of infrastructure). The bias allows its holders to feel morally pure by focusing on intentions while remaining willfully blind to results.
