Get the Wonk mug.The word was used - strictly as a verb - at Harvard in the 1950s, to mean "hunker down for some serious studying," as in "I can't go out tonight. I have to wonk for my chem exam." The folk etymology was that it was KNOW spelled backwards, though how that led to the new meaning was cloudy at best. Though I never encountered it as a noun, I suppose people who did it could have been called wonkers.

Get the Wonk mug.A particular pathetic and uninspired state of misery.
Applicable to many situations.
Often surfacing through a combination of misserable circumstances like deceptive expectations and the aftermath of intoxication.
For instance:
Friends that haven't seen eachother in a long time agree to spend a weekend together in beautiful, interesting, lively and inspirational city.
Arrowsed already weeks before they arrive ready for action.
They end up doing nothing at all but sit in the same shity bar complaining about all and everything and doing nothing about it.
