New Genres of music are debuting constantly, but they all come from the same basis of music. The only Instrument a Rapper is willing to Play is his pistol, which can be found in about 1/3 of All rap soungs ever.

Rapi is lazy ass black and some white(Eminem)guys, who don't do nothing and they just talk about their stupid, retarded gangs, and their stupid ugly neighboorhoods. I know people that came to this country with just $20, and after 4 years, they have a house, a few cars,a nice life. Get the rap mug.Rap is a way of life. Many people like my dad even think that rap is a bad influence because all its about is killing cops and smoking weed and all that. Well if you think that please go listen to any song by Tupac Amaru Shakur (Rest In Peace, or any other real rapper. I understnd how you get the idea that rap is about that. A lot of these new rappers sing about that (50 cent, Eminem, G-Unit...) and that is all of the rap that they hear on the radio. Rap is a form of poetry and just like you give Laghston Hughes pespect i think that you should give real rappers respect. Also people think that rap is all black people. Well look at the people in the group The Demigodz there is only one black person out of 6, and there are many other non black rappers like Apathy and Celph Titled.

Get the Rap mug.Beats and rhymes. Since when did "music" need to justify itself with anything more than rhythm and originality? Leaving aside questions of "poetry," rap IS legitimate music since it is the creative composition of meaningful rhythms and sonic elements that convey emotional meaning - including humor - something many "listeners" seem to lack.
If you deny that rap is "music," then you need to examine your bias. What about other musical expressions that privilege rhythm and timbre over melody? What is your definition of "melody?" Are you listening honestly or through a socially constructed filter of "taste?"

Rap does not have Rhythm, only beat and most often does not use any musical instruments, rather, uses sounds composed on a synthesiser. Hence, rap is not music, it is a form of poetry.

Get the rap mug.A genre of music. In it's original form some years ago it was a great form of expression through poetry and beats. However it has turned into a more pop oriented genre and become very generic.
Public Enemy, NWA, and other early rappers made actual music, unlike today's feild of rappers that include Lil Jon, 50 Cent, and Chingy.
