autism
A human neurotype with a high degree of neurological connectivity and responsiveness, resulting in cognitive processing that relies less on hard-wired animal instincts and more on conscious logic and objective facts.
This contrasts allism, the neurotype of the average person. Allistic humans process information "top-down," navigating life and social hierarchies via automatic animal instincts, known as intuition or "common sense".
Autistic humans process information "bottom-up," building a mental image of a situation from zero assumptions or instinctual shortcuts, instead prioritizing conscious intellect, logic, and systemic fairness. To them, this is true common sense.
Allistic humans are more neurologically complex than animals, relying less on instinct, requiring 18 years to mature and a year just to walk, while many animals can walk upon birth and are adults within a year. The autistic neurotype is even more complex, relying even less on instinct, thus needing even more support and time to learn how to interact with the world.
But instead of receiving extra support and time, they are labeled as "disabled" and forced to mask their behaviour through "neuroconversion therapy". This daily abuse begins in early childhood and causes self-hatred and depression, which amplifies their outward signs of stress, which causes others to reject them even more. Due to this abusive cycle, many fail to attend university or pass job interviews, reinforcing the illusion of a disability.

Autism used to be seen as a defect, but now it's recognized as just a more complex neurotype that requires acceptance instead of suppression. In a future world where they are treated as equals from childhood, they could be just as productive and social as allistic people, and could help solve the world's problems with their complex thinking abilities. Many sudden leaps in technological progress were from autistic inventors.
